POS built for Arizona convenience, grocery and liquor stores

Arizona exempts food for home consumption from the 5.6% state rate and then lets each city decide whether to tax it anyway, and per ADOR about 70 of the 91 incorporated cities and towns did as of 2024. Phoenix, Tucson and Mesa do not, so two stores an hour apart ring the same loaf of bread differently. An over-the-counter sale is sourced to your own business location, so the rate profile is a per-store setting rather than a company-wide one.

Serving independent retailers across Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale and the rest of Arizona.

Arizona rules, already configured

These are the settings an AZ store has to get right. Storeveu ships with them in place rather than leaving them for you to build.

State sales tax

5.6% TPT plus county and city

Arizona charges 5.6% transaction privilege tax at state level, and counties and cities add their own rate on top, counties through their own excise tax and cities and towns under the Model City Tax Code, so the combined rate depends on the street address. Over-the-counter sales are sourced to the seller's business location under A.R.S. Sec. 42-5040, which means an in-store sale always takes your store's rate and never the customer's. Storeveu inherits the state rate for every Arizona store and takes a per-store override for the county and city layer, with no customer-address lookup anywhere in the tender path.

Groceries are a city decision

Exempt from state, taxed by many cities

Food for home consumption is exempt from the 5.6% state rate under A.R.S. Sec. 42-5102, but cities and towns may still tax it, and per ADOR about 70 of Arizona's 91 incorporated cities and towns did as of 2024. Phoenix, Tucson and Mesa do not. Prepared food is a separate case: the hot case, the roller grill and fountain drinks fall under the Restaurant classification and are taxable at the full 5.6% state rate even in a city where packaged groceries are exempt, and many cities set their restaurant rate higher than their general retail rate. Storeveu uses per-department tax rules so the hot case and the grocery aisle each ring at their own rate on one receipt.

Lottery commission

6.5% on tickets sold

The Arizona Lottery is run by the Arizona State Lottery Commission and retailers earn 6.5% on tickets sold. Storeveu tracks scratch books through inventory, active, depleted and settled, so you always know which packs are live at which till. The end-of-shift ticket scan works out how many tickets sold out of each active book, so commission is calculated off a real count rather than an estimate.

Liquor licence and age

Series 9 is quota limited, 21 for everything

Arizona is a licence state rather than a control state, so one shop can sell beer, wine and spirits off the same shelf with the right series under A.R.S. Sec. 4-209. A Series 10 beer and wine licence carries no population quota, but a Series 9 liquor store licence for spirits does: the director issues only one more per 10,000 person increase in that county's population measured from July 1, 2010, so most Series 9 licences are acquired by transfer. Sales are unlawful between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. under A.R.S. Sec. 4-244(15). Alcohol and nicotine are both 21 since A.R.S. Sec. 13-3622 was raised effective September 26, 2025, so Storeveu runs one date-of-birth prompt for both and restricts sales to the categories your licence actually covers.

Arizona questions

Do I have to charge sales tax on groceries in my Arizona store?

It depends on the city your store sits in. Food for home consumption is exempt from the 5.6% state rate under A.R.S. Sec. 42-5102, but cities and towns may still tax it under the Model City Tax Code, and per ADOR about 70 of Arizona's 91 incorporated cities and towns did as of 2024. Phoenix, Tucson and Mesa do not, so packaged groceries there ring untaxed. A 2023 bill to ban the municipal grocery tax outright was vetoed and never took effect, and HCR 2021 referred a measure to the November 3, 2026 ballot that would cap local grocery tax at 2% of base price and require voter approval for any increase. Storeveu holds the state exemption at state level and takes your city's treatment as a per-store override, so you set it once and every till in that store follows.

Which Arizona rate does the register use, my store's or the customer's?

Your store's. A.R.S. Sec. 42-5040 sources a retail sale to the seller's business location when the order is received at a business location in this state, so an over-the-counter sale takes the rate at your address no matter where the customer lives. Destination sourcing only applies when the order is received at a business location outside Arizona, which is a remote seller rule and not a convenience store rule. Storeveu keeps no customer-address rate lookup in the in-store tender path for that reason. For a multi store operator, the state layer is inherited by every Arizona store and the county and city layer is set per store.

What lottery commission does Storeveu apply for Arizona?

6.5% on tickets sold, the Arizona Lottery retailer rate, inherited by every store you run in the state with a per-store override if yours needs one. Books move through inventory, active, depleted and settled, so a pack is never counted twice and you can see which books are open at which till. At the end of a shift the cashier scans the last ticket in each active book and Storeveu works out the tickets sold from that, which is what the commission figure is built on. The result reconciles against your settlement from the Arizona State Lottery Commission instead of sitting as a rough total.

Are there any deposit, bag or soda fees to configure in Arizona?

No. Arizona has no beverage container deposit law, so there is no deposit line at the register, no redemption counter and no per-container handling fee to account for. Bag fees are preempted statewide by A.R.S. Sec. 9-500.38, which also bars a city or town from imposing a return deposit on containers, so no local bag charge or local deposit scheme exists anywhere in the state. Soda and snack taxes are preempted as well: A.R.S. Sec. 42-6015 requires any municipal food tax to apply uniformly to all food, so a city either taxes all food or none and you never ring soda and candy at a different rate from the rest of the aisle. That same section bars municipal tax on food bought with USDA food stamp or child nutrition benefits, so Storeveu zeroes tax on qualifying lines under an EBT tender even in a grocery-taxing city.

Common questions

How much does Storeveu cost?

Plans start at $39/mo (Starter) and $129/mo (Pro) per store, billed month-to-month with no contract or early-termination fee. Most modules are add-ons you turn on per store, see the pricing page for the full list.

Does Storeveu work offline?

Yes. The register is offline-first, it keeps ringing sales with no internet and syncs automatically the moment the connection returns, so a dropped router never stops checkout.

Is there a long-term contract?

No. Storeveu is month-to-month per store with no long-term contract and no early-termination fee, change tiers or cancel a store anytime.

Do I need special hardware?

No. Storeveu runs on standard Windows PCs with common receipt printers, cash drawers and PAX/Dejavoo terminals, bring your own, or buy the E15W dual-screen terminal.

How long does it take to switch from my current POS?

Most stores go live in 1-3 weeks. The team imports your catalog and customer list from systems like Square, Clover, Lightspeed or Heartland, usually overnight.

Can I manage multiple stores?

Yes. Run multiple locations from one back office with per-store pricing and inventory, plus a five-tier role hierarchy and custom roles.

Is my store data private and secure?

Every record is scoped to your organization and store, access is permission-gated by role, and one tenant can never see another’s data.
