POS built for California convenience, grocery and liquor stores

California CRV is charged per container at a rate that depends on container size, and unlike most deposit states the CRV is itself part of the taxable amount whenever the drink is taxable. That means every beverage SKU needs both a container size and a tax flag, and getting one wrong shows up in the return.

Serving independent retailers across Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, Fresno, Sacramento and the rest of California.

California rules, already configured

These are the settings a CA store has to get right. Storeveu ships with them in place rather than leaving them for you to build.

Sales tax

7.25% base, plus district taxes

The 7.25% statewide base is made up of a 6.00% state rate and a 1.25% local allocation. Voter approved district taxes of 0.10% to 2.00% stack on top and frequently push a location past 9.25%. Storeveu holds the effective rate per store.

CRV by container size

5 cents under 24 oz, 10 cents at 24 oz and over

CRV is size driven rather than flat, so the same drink in two formats carries two different amounts. A 25 cent rate applies to wine and spirits sold in bag in box, pouch and carton formats. Storeveu resolves the right CRV from the product record rather than asking the cashier to judge volume.

CRV is taxable when the drink is

Unlike most deposit states

California includes CRV in the taxable amount whenever the beverage itself is taxable, which is the opposite of how Massachusetts, New York and Michigan treat their deposits. Storeveu applies that rule automatically, so a California store and an out of state store can run on the same platform without either return being wrong.

One licence covers everything

Type 21 sells beer, wine and spirits

A single Type 21 off sale general licence lets one store sell beer, wine and spirits under one age gate, unlike New York or Michigan where spirits sit behind a separate and scarce licence. Storeveu prompts for date of birth across all three categories.

Keeps selling when the internet drops

The register is offline first. Sales keep ringing and sync the moment the connection returns.

Month to month, no contract

Starter and Pro are billed per store with no long term contract and no early termination fee.

California questions

Is California CRV taxable?

Yes, when the beverage itself is taxable, and this is where California differs from most deposit states. Massachusetts, New York and Michigan all keep the deposit outside the taxable amount, while California includes CRV in it. Storeveu applies the correct treatment per state, so an operator running stores in more than one state does not end up with a wrong return in either.

How does Storeveu know which CRV rate applies?

California sets CRV by container size, 5 cents below 24 fluid ounces and 10 cents at 24 ounces and above, with a 25 cent rate for wine and spirits in bag in box, pouch and carton formats. Storeveu resolves the rate from the container size held on the product record, so a cashier ringing a mixed basket never has to judge volume.

Can one California store sell beer, wine and spirits?

Yes, under a single Type 21 off sale general licence. That is a meaningful difference from states such as New York or Michigan, where spirits require a separate and quota limited licence. Storeveu applies a date of birth prompt across all three categories and keeps the reporting per store.

Does the sales tax rate vary across California?

Substantially. The 7.25% statewide base is a floor, and voter approved district taxes stack on top, so many locations sit above 9.25% and neighbouring cities can differ. Storeveu holds the effective rate on each store record, which means one catalog and one price book across an estate that spans several districts.

Common questions

How much does Storeveu cost?

Plans start at $39/mo (Starter) and $129/mo (Pro) per store, billed month-to-month with no contract or early-termination fee. Most modules are add-ons you turn on per store, see the pricing page for the full list.

Does Storeveu work offline?

Yes. The register is offline-first, it keeps ringing sales with no internet and syncs automatically the moment the connection returns, so a dropped router never stops checkout.

Is there a long-term contract?

No. Storeveu is month-to-month per store with no long-term contract and no early-termination fee, change tiers or cancel a store anytime.

Do I need special hardware?

No. Storeveu runs on standard Windows PCs with common receipt printers, cash drawers and PAX/Dejavoo terminals, bring your own, or buy the E15W dual-screen terminal.

How long does it take to switch from my current POS?

Most stores go live in 1-3 weeks. The team imports your catalog and customer list from systems like Square, Clover, Lightspeed or Heartland, usually overnight.

Can I manage multiple stores?

Yes. Run multiple locations from one back office with per-store pricing and inventory, plus a five-tier role hierarchy and custom roles.

Is my store data private and secure?

Every record is scoped to your organization and store, access is permission-gated by role, and one tenant can never see another’s data.
