Bottle deposit

Michigan charges 10 cents a container, double the 5 cents used by most deposit states and unlike any neighbouring state, which have none. It covers carbonated soft drinks, carbonated water, beer and malt drinks, and mixed wine and mixed spirit drinks. Still water, juice and sports drinks carry no deposit at all, so the charge has to be set per product rather than assumed on every bottle. Lottery commission

Michigan does not publish a fixed retailer rate. The Lottery commissioner sets it and has to give retailers 60 days notice of a change, and you are paid both on tickets sold and on prizes you cash. Spirits need a quota licence
SDD, one per 3,000 residents
Both off premise licences are quota limited by population: one SDM per 1,000 residents for beer and wine, and one SDD per 3,000 for spirits, so spirits are the scarce one. How does Storeveu handle the Michigan 10 cent bottle deposit?
The 10 cent deposit is added as its own line, kept out of the taxable subtotal, and refunded through the Bottle Redemption screen, which counts containers and totals the refund so the drawer reconciles at close. Michigan only deposits carbonated drinks, beer and malt drinks, and mixed wine and mixed spirit drinks, so still water, juice and sports drinks ring with no deposit at all. There is no fixed handling fee paid at redemption, but a quarter of the state's deposit fund is shared out to dealers according to how many containers each one handled, so the count is worth getting right.
