POS built for Idaho convenience, grocery and liquor stores

Idaho charges its full 6% sales tax on groceries at the counter, then sends relief back through an income tax credit, not a discount at checkout. That's the reverse of what most sales tax states do, and it means a system carried over from somewhere else will quietly exempt food that Idaho expects taxed. Get the department rule wrong here and every grocery run under-rings by 6%.

Serving independent retailers across Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Idaho Falls, Caldwell, Pocatello and the rest of Idaho.

Idaho rules, already configured

These are the settings an ID store has to get right. Storeveu ships with them in place rather than leaving them for you to build.

State sales tax

6% flat, resort towns add more

Idaho keeps a flat 6% state rate with no county or city sales tax layer, so most of the state, including all six major metros, rings at exactly 6%. Only a short list of small resort communities, Sun Valley, Ketchum, Sandpoint and Hailey among them, have voted in a local option tax that pushes their combined rate to around 7% or 9%. Storeveu sets the state rate at the org level and lets any resort town store override its own rate without touching the rest of the estate.

Grocery tax

Fully taxable, no register exemption

Idaho taxes unprepared groceries at the same 6% as everything else on the shelf. There is no point of sale exemption to configure. Relief instead comes through an Idaho income tax credit worth roughly $155 a person for 2025, up to $250 if the shopper keeps receipts, claimed on their tax return rather than at your register. Storeveu's per-department tax rules keep grocery items taxable by default here, rather than inheriting a food exemption built for a different state.

Lottery commission

5% on ticket sales

Idaho State Lottery pays retailers a 5% commission on ticket sales. A separate rate for cashing winning tickets isn't published, so confirm that figure against your own retailer agreement. Storeveu tracks lottery books through inventory, active, depleted and settled, with an end-of-shift ticket scan that works out exactly how many tickets sold, so the 5% commission is calculated against a real count rather than an estimate.

Spirits licensing

State stores only, beer and wine by licence

Spirits above 16% ABV can only be sold through Idaho State Liquor Division stores or ISLD-authorised contract liquor stores, never over a convenience or grocery counter. Beer and wine are different: a licensed convenience or grocery store can sell both directly, with no state quota to clear. Both alcohol and tobacco require the buyer to be 21. Storeveu prompts for date of birth at the register so age-restricted items get checked every time, not just when a clerk remembers.

Keeps selling when the internet drops

The register is offline first. Sales keep ringing and sync the moment the connection returns.

Month to month, no contract

Starter and Pro are billed per store with no long term contract and no early termination fee.

Idaho questions

Does Storeveu charge sales tax on groceries in Idaho?

Yes. Idaho taxes unprepared groceries at the full 6% state rate. It does not carve out a register exemption the way many other states do. The relief mechanism is an Idaho income tax credit, worth roughly $155 a person for 2025 and up to $250 with receipts, claimed on the shopper's tax return rather than applied at checkout. Storeveu's per-department tax rules are set to keep grocery items taxable by default for Idaho stores, so nothing needs to be switched off manually.

Can an Idaho convenience store sell liquor?

Not spirits. Liquor over 16% ABV is sold only through Idaho State Liquor Division stores and ISLD-authorised contract liquor stores, so an ordinary convenience or grocery counter cannot carry it. Beer and wine are a separate, non-controlled category, and a licensed convenience or grocery store can sell both directly with no state quota to work around, during off-premise hours of 6am to 1am, with some localities extending that to 2am. It's the dedicated liquor stores, not beer and wine retailers, that face the extra closed days, no sales on Sundays, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas, unless their local jurisdiction has opted back in for the first three.

What lottery commission does Storeveu use for Idaho?

5% on ticket sales, the rate Idaho State Lottery, operating under IDAPA 52, pays its retailers. A separate published rate for cashing winning tickets isn't available, so that number comes from your own retailer agreement rather than a state schedule. Lottery books are tracked through inventory, active, depleted and settled, with an end-of-shift ticket scan that works out exactly how many tickets sold. That scan is what the 5% commission gets calculated against, so an accurate count matters for the commission report to match the Lottery's own statement.

Does Idaho have a bottle deposit law?

No. Idaho is not one of the ten states with a container deposit system, so no deposit is collected or refunded at an Idaho register. Some third-party sites describe a 5 or 10 cent Idaho deposit, but that figure doesn't come from any Idaho state source and shouldn't be built into a POS. Stores near the Oregon border sometimes run into Oregon's BottleDrop programme on containers bought in Oregon, but that's an Oregon system, not an Idaho requirement. Storeveu's Bottle Redemption screen stays available for any store that needs it, but nothing in Idaho triggers it by default.

Common questions

How much does Storeveu cost?

Plans start at $39/mo (Starter) and $129/mo (Pro) per store, billed month-to-month with no contract or early-termination fee. Most modules are add-ons you turn on per store, see the pricing page for the full list.

Does Storeveu work offline?

Yes. The register is offline-first, it keeps ringing sales with no internet and syncs automatically the moment the connection returns, so a dropped router never stops checkout.

Is there a long-term contract?

No. Storeveu is month-to-month per store with no long-term contract and no early-termination fee, change tiers or cancel a store anytime.

Do I need special hardware?

No. Storeveu runs on standard Windows PCs with common receipt printers, cash drawers and PAX/Dejavoo terminals, bring your own, or buy the E15W dual-screen terminal.

How long does it take to switch from my current POS?

Most stores go live in 1-3 weeks. The team imports your catalog and customer list from systems like Square, Clover, Lightspeed or Heartland, usually overnight.

Can I manage multiple stores?

Yes. Run multiple locations from one back office with per-store pricing and inventory, plus a five-tier role hierarchy and custom roles.

Is my store data private and secure?

Every record is scoped to your organization and store, access is permission-gated by role, and one tenant can never see another’s data.
